About Us

ASAYO (Archdiocese Single Adult and Youth Office) is a movement for the youths between the age of 18 to 35 years who are not married. We are the office of the Single Adult and Youth of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

Our History

A series of eight consultations were held from 30th June1987 with various groups ministering to youth/ single adults in the Archdiocese. As a result, in 1988 it was decided that an office be set – up to cater to the needs this sector of the Catholic population.


The Archdiocesan Single Adults & Youth Office (ASAYO) was constituted on 1st April 1989 with the following mandate in line with the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan (APP):

“To organize programmes and coordinate activities directed towards the integral formation and development of the youth and single adults– generally delineated as the 13– 20 and the 21– 35 age groups respectively– within the context of a multiethnic Malaysian society.”
ASAYO offers: Development of Leaders Component Groups Working Together Spiritual Growth Counseling.

Objectives

- Networking with non– member youth of the parish/ district.
- To see all round formation.
- To keep in touch with priests concern for the monthly “Formation Session”.
- To bring out the talents and skills of group members as well as non-members by giving responsibilities to    
   them.
- To see that efforts are made to create a youth group in their respective parish and get in new members.
- To organize programmes and coordinate activities directed towards integral formation and development of
   Youth and Single Adults.
- To be a Resource Centre for material, ideas, person in coordinating camps/ seminars, etc.
- To be a Counseling Centre for youth who need help.

Our Mission


We, the young people of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur journeying towards the future are prepared to commit and form ourselves as one united family to create a sense of belonging; to actively support, encourage and participate in the Church’s vision trough listening, sharing and living the Word of God.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSS


Help our young adults/ youth to face the reality of the cross in their daily lives, and learn to accept them as a mean of growth especially:
               -  accepting corrections and making a change

                - self discipline in choice of entertainment

                - self– denial in relationship to family and BEC’s

                - doing with less material comforts


RELATIONSHIP


Help out young adults/ youth to understand and build supportive relationships as opposed to power– struggle relationships at international, family and community levels, especially through:

                 - constructive criticism

                 - resolution of conflict in an acceptable way

                 - respect for the dignity of self and each other

                 - forgiveness and reconciliation
